I recently had a visit with a number of the dogs in the Cosumnes River College Veterinary Technician program. These dogs are rescued from various animal shelters at the beginning of each school year, and spend the next nine months assisting the students in learning various techniques of veterinary medicine before they are adopted out to their forever homes in the  summer. It’s a great program for everyone involved.

I spent a brief period of time with seven out of the twelve dogs this past weekend. They were all very sweet and although a few were camera shy at first they all warmed up eventually! Here’s Maya, a several month-old pit/hound mix. More to follow soon!

Adoptables :: Sacramento, California

Toughie is an 8 1/2 year old Dachshund whose owner can no longer properly care for him and sadly has to give him up for adoption. He is a very sweet and playful dog, but he has been diagnosed with diabetes and requires special care. He has cataracts in both eyes.

Persons interested in adopting Toughie should contact the South Davis Veterinary Center at (530) 757-1113.

Adoptables — Sacramento, California

If you know anyone in the Sacramento, CA, area that may be interested in a dog or a cat, the Cosumnes River College veterinary technician program has four animals that still need to be adopted out.

They are:

Hammie- Jack Russell Terrier mix.  Lots of energy and fun, playful personality.

Casper- Chihuahua mix.  Playful and sweet personality.  Great for a family with children.

Robin- A very handsome boy who loves to sit in your lap.

Copper- Our goofball that is very playful and very sweet.  Would be great for a family with children.

The dogs have a $100 adoption fee, and the cats have a $50 adoption fee. All animals have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and are up to date on their vaccinations.

Contact Cheryl Buch (pronounced “Bush”) if interested at  (916) 691-7355.

Franklin and Peyton :: Sacramento Pet Photographer

I had an awesome photo shoot with a pair of Corgis this weekend that I almost didn’t want to end. Franklin and Peyton are half-brother and -sister, born two years apart, and were meeting each other for the first time. We decided to get them together at a nearby park for a fun photo session full of fetch, slide rides, and other awesomeness. I was so happy to be a part of this first meeting between two wonderful dogs.

Peyton did very well on her first photo shoot, especially for a puppy, but Franklin is an old hand at modeling and with some amazing help from his person slid right back into the role of canine supermodel.

I’ll leave you with one last shot of Peyton gazing up at her new person. If that’s not a trusting look, I don’t know what is. 🙂

Cocoa :: Sacramento Pet Photography

Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of spending a beautiful spring afternoon with a Husky mix named Cocoa and her owners. Cocoa was rescued through Norsled several years ago, and now spends her days in a loving home just a few blocks away from a wide-open dog park. It was to there we headed for her shoot, and we had it all to ourselves. Cocoa had free reign to romp through the tall grass and do what she loves most — chase her Chuck It ball!
